Online Show

Hi Everyone, I have a show coming up on June 25 at Blue Heron in Reedsburg. Please stop by if you are in the area. I will be posting the show online as well, to offer you the chance to grab one of my paintings even if you can't be there in person. If you are interested, I will ship these with insurance for the price listed on each piece. Here are the pieces from today, please check back early next week for more.
Thank You, Kyle Martin.

8x8" oil on stretched canvas $250.00

This Piece was painted in late October, the week after we had the Fall Art Tour here on the farm. These sugar maples are on Terrytown road and this was the first painting of a few that I did at that forest. I saved this one for my show at Blue Heron, while the rest went to the small works show at the Art Bar in Milwaukee. This piece has been hanging in my studio since last October, and I framed it with a contemporary gold frame, which sets off the warm colors in the painting.

The Cat with Yarn 8x16" oil on panel $400

This is a painting of my cat! I painted this back in January, as a part of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. This painting was supposed to go to a show in Madison, but when I ordered a custom frame for the non standard size, they sent the wrong size. Thankfully, San Diego frame co has great customer service, and the cat will see the light of day now. Better late than never.

The Editor 8x6" oil on panel $250

I was teaching a workshop through Gallery Dillon in Madison a month ago, and was drawn to paint a portrait of this gentleman in a fedora. We were on the banks of the Yahara River on a sunny day, and this was a lot of fun to paint.

Spring Light 8x6" $250 oil on panel

There is a shack on the far side of our farm near the west cornfield. In the early spring, it's not so bad to walk out to the shack, and this was painted in early April during the last light of the day. Now that the canary grass and weeds are getting so high, it's nearly impossible to get back there.

Maci 10x12" oil on panel $425

A head study of my favorite ten-year-old-going-on-seventeen, Maci!

Cherry Tree and Blue Shed 18x18" oil on canvas $675

We had an early spring in Wisconsin this year. While I was painting this the birds were singing and there were sweet scents from blossoming cherry trees in the air. Spring is my favorite season, especially these nice sunny days, where there is not a lot of humidity in the air.

Forsythia Neighborhood 18x18" oil on canvas $675

Forsythia and Magnolia bushes are the first signs of color in the spring, and Baraboo is full of both. For a couple of weeks, everything looks surreal. I suppose that's just the beauty of nature.

Cedarburg Plein Air Festival 2016

The Cedarburg Plein Air festival happens every June, and is the largest plein air festival in the Midwest. Every year over 160 painters come to the historic town to paint for a week, culminating with a show of over 500 paintings. The best part of going to Cedarburg, for me, is catching up with all the painters. This year, I was honored to receive an award for my  painting Center Line Barn. There are several of these barns with the double peaks around Cedarburg, and the light was beautiful on the evening that I painted.

Paintings From Spring

I will be showing new paintings at Blue Heron in Reedsburg on June 25, from 1-5 PM. My girlfriend shot and edited this video of me painting on our farm today. Please join us if you can, otherwise I am going to post the framed paintings with paypal links and free shipping here on my blog by the day of the show. Thank You for looking.

Spring in Baraboo Wisconsin

I'm having a spring show at Blue Heron on Saturday July 25! Several of my spring paintings will be on display at the show, as well as some autumn and winter pieces. For the past couple of years, my spring show was before Memorial Day, but this year we pushed it back until late June, so that I can include the pieces from my favorite time of year.

Early Spring

Spring is here. This is my favorite time of year to paint because of the promise of many nice days ahead.

Late Winter

Late winter on the farm means melting snow, high water and ochre grasses. These four paintings feature our corn crib.

Two New Classes

I am pleased to announce two new classes with Gallery Dillon in Madison! The first class is coming up quickly, on Saturday April 30, and will focus on painting cityscapes. I love to paint street scenes and painting this demo is going to be fun for me because I love the Willy Street neighborhood!

The second class is on Saturday May 21. For this class, we will take a short walk to the banks of the Yahara River to paint. Spring is coming, and it will be fun to paint the budding trees and chartreuse grass!

My classes focus on the fundamentals. I want you to leave the class with an understanding of drawing, values, and color. I have developed several teaching tools that allow me to teach these concepts. In addition, if you do not have an outdoor easel or supplies, I can help you out with them, just shoot me an email to reserve one.

Please consider these classes as a gift for Mothers Day. To register for the classes, please contact Pat Dillon at pat@gallerydillon.com

Our Barn

June Barn and Car 11x14" oil on canvas - $300

With Spring right around the corner, I wanted to post our barn standing tall in the summertime.

I was painting in Door County last week, with Matt Holt, and it was cold. I joked with my friend Josh today that it was so cold that I didn't even want to paint, and that's COLD! For now, forget about the blue snow shadows of winter (and the pink halo's around them) and remember where we are headed. Stay warm out there :)

Galleries

Terrytown Creamery 12x16" oil on panel available at Gallery Dillon

Evening Farm 11x14" oil on panel available at Gallery Dillon

I am dropping off work to Blue Heron in Reedsburg and Gallery Dillon in Madison this week, and I am also in Outside the Lines Gallery in Galena, IL and Cornerstone Gallery in Baraboo. I have worked with Blue Heron and Cornerstone Gallery for 7 years now, and am new in Dillon and Outside the Lines. Having great galleries is everything to me. They keep me motivated to paint, and give me opportunities to show and teach.

I have a Valentines event coming up at Blue Heron, and have taught several classes in their studio, as well as have had at least a show a year there over the years. I am also getting ready for a still life show and class at Gallery Dillon, and I appreciate the opportunity to teach in Madison.
